History of Cotton Production in Turkey
According to historical sources, cotton cultivation in the geography of Turkey dates back to 3000 BC. Throughout history, cotton has been widely grown in Adana (Çukurova) in particular, as well as in Aydın, Denizli, Muğla, Antep, Urfa, Maraş, Diyarbakır, and Mardin.
The real development of cotton farming began during the 11th century under the Seljuk Turks, and by the 14th century under the Ottoman Empire, cotton had become a strategic product in both agricultural production and trade, spreading across a wider geography.
